In their view, the $50 less cost and and possible improvements are good for home listening and omits professional features that the home user doesn't necessarily need such as reverse play or VTA in an entry level turn table. The 120X is said by AT to be an "improvement" for the "consumer" with a $50 lower price, hopefully better pre-amp and a maybe a better DC servo direct-drive motor. If you're looking for something that is more similar to the original 120, which is being discontinued as soon as we run out of stock, you might want to look at the 140X USB, it's closer to what the current 120 is with some upgrades. Its got a detachable RCA cable, the power supply is outside now, it has more of an upgraded tonearm as well. Unless you're a DJ you probably wouldn't need that. The 120X is geared more toward the consumer, to wear you don't need a lot of the stuff like going backwards, it does not have a backwards feature. ![]() For one thing the 120, the original version, was made with DJs in mind, that was the original design. Hello, this is Audio Technica returning your call about the LP120X version versus the old version. Here's the voicemail they left me when they called back. So I called Audio Technica support, and requested more information about the LP120X model and how it's different from the older model. It's lighter, has a better cartridge, but the one thing that bummed me out was there's no VTA adjustment as they've removed the ability to adjust the height of the tonearm. ![]() The 120X has improvements ( link) over the original 120 model that you can look at by clicking the link.
